I don't know how much I've spent on bus fare this month, but it's certainly been less than 80$.

Bus fare and frugality

Now that it's February, it's time to throw away last months bus pass and go get a new one, or is it? Based on last month's bus usage by myself, I figure I would save a few bucks by not buying a monthly pass and going weekly or even per ride in paying. The monthly pass is 79$ which I will round to 80$. The bus fare is 2.50$ a ride with no pass/discount. I can pay for 32 rides with that same 80$ in cash, and so the question is will I ride the bus 32 times in a month? That's 16 round trips somewhere. If I think about it like that, it seems like a realistic amount of places I'd bus to. What I want to add to thought this month is that I end up walking a fair number of places and I have no idea the number of actual trips I take in a month. The pass I have isn't electronic, so there isn't any record of where I was or go, which I like most of the time. So what I'm going to do this month is put 80$ aside in dollars and quarters for ease of use that I spend on the bus. I will use it the whole month and see if I run out or have extra. I'll try and keep extra fare money in my coats and bag so I feel like I always can take the bus, like I can now. Hopefully I'll end up with some extra change and put my mind at ease for awhile.

Literally Literature

"I want to read what someone finished writing last week." I have been playing with this idea that there should be a place you can go and download ePub formatted writings that authors are willing to share under (some sort of) a creative commons copyright. It started because I can't say I know of what's 'going on' in the world other than through my interaction with news outlets and social networks. I don't mean what happened yesterday or last week, but what people are thinking and feeling the day before. A lot of writing I read on the internet is non-fiction and while people's lives are interesting, it will rarely compare with fictionalized storytelling that can be so much more abstract and encompassing. It may be because I've been reading books written in the 60's and they feel like preserved documents about characters that existed in that era. I have no idea what people are writing about, but I assume they are writing out there. There have to be dozens of english students who write for one reason or another, I want to get them to post those writings to one site where people can download and read them. I've seen what past writers have said about the future we live in, I want to read about what's next for us, our future.

Starving

I'm so hungry right now. How do I manage to make it until 7 without eating anything and only drinking coffee? Probably because I eat late at night.

Leeping In

I've gotten into a sleeping habit that has me falling asleep at 5 AM, waking up around 10 AM, going back to bed and waking up again at 4 PM. Some days it feels like I'm missing a good part of the day, but most of the time I know nothing happens before the early evening. The one thing I do regret when I wake up and the light is either rising or falling is that coffee shops have started closing earlier due to 'winter' hours so I can get only a couple hours before they close. I found Ozo coffeehouse because of this: I went to Saxy's, my until-now favorite shop, and they were completely full up of people and they closed in an hour and a half (7PM). I walked out and followed some other turn-aways and they lead me to Ozo right around the corner. Ozo is open until 9, but today of all days to go get coffee they had a staff meeting at 6 and closed them. Now I'm at The Cup, which is a pretty great shop, but a bit more of a walk for me. They're open until 10 PM though, so that's nice. They serve pricey healthy organic food so that's not as nice. I have been able to take advantage of staying up late to watch some movies on netflix I haven't seen like "Interview with the Vampire" and "Magic Trip" which I like because choosing netflix options with other people is still surprisingly difficult. "How about this?" "Whatever." "Have you seen this?" "Yeah, but whatever." I watched "Magic Trip" with Christian last night and it was pretty great in the sense of seeing film that was from another time and the people on it are so familiar, but not the same characters I know. The film is a documentary about Ken Kesey's crazy acid fueled bus trip from West Coast to East Coast using the footage shot on the way. It's a large part of "the electric kool-aid acid test," which I'm almost done with. I'd read the book first, since it has much more backstory and depth for the people and the events. I miss having nights where people shoot the shit and create something new, even if it's a tangential conversation. I don't like saying it too much, but the people I'm living with aren't the coolest shit I've seen. Playing madden instead of mario. They do play music together, but it's mostly standard dad rock, meh.

Last.fm scrobbling google music

I didn't consider this something they could do, but last.fm's android app can record what you play through the native music player that can use stream from google music. You can see this working by looking to the right and it hasn't been 160 days since I last listened to Robyn. This is really cool.

Bussing troubles

Today i had a simple list of thing to do: get a library card, get my glasses' frame adjusted, and get home. I used the bus pass i got yesterday to get to the library, which was easy since its a straight shot down broadway. Then instead of bussing to pearle vision, i walked cause why lot. This leaves me on 28th st to get home. According to the bus schedule, i could just hop on the 205 and bam. Turns out i got on the 205C and that goes very far away from anywhere ive been. Figuring i can just stay on it and bus' routes go in circles i eventually ended up back at the 28th stop i had gotten on at. I ended up waiting for 20 mins until a bus came that took me home. So it wasa rough day, especially wheni #orgot my paper temp ID and had to bus back and forth to the north boulder liquor store.
